photo album, photographs, 25x30, 2025
The artist creates her own “archive” by using an old photo album, into which she inserts photographs taken by her husband in the Kherson region in 2020, but accidentally developed only in 2025. A special dimension of the work emerges through the surreal nature of the discovery: photographs taken five years earlier appear in the present, as if messages from another temporal reality. In this way, the artist engages with the paradox of the presence of the absent — when real images become evidence of what has already disappeared.
In this work, the artist seeks to reflect on the notion of a “nonexistent space” — one that continues to live only in memory. These images allow the viewer not only to see, but to look closely at a moment that has dissolved in time. Within this archive, the everyday nature of the photographs gains the weight of a treasure, and although the images are real, the process of archiving itself appears as an imitative gesture or an attempt to restore what cannot be returned.
