Nova Kakhovochka solo exhibition
Dim gallery. Warsaw, Poland, 2023
Curator: Janine Berchak
The works in the exhibition come from different series dedicated to the artist’s hometown, Nova Kakhovka, which has been under occupation since February 24.
The series "Documentation" tells about the shelling in Nova Kakhovka. This project shows the consequences of strikes and impacts, and through the play with the scale of video projection – their meaning for different people. The works are displayed in transparent folders, as “documentation,” which makes it impossible to erase or deny the actions of the occupiers, since it is precisely because of the occupation that the shelling takes place. In the series "Nova Kakhovka Occupied", the artist uses her hometown to depict life under occupation, and through her family – the everyday side of this life. The project highlights two aspects of life in occupation: the political one (which includes everything that can be seen in the news and local groups: the consequences of war, remnants of shells and military equipment, the imposition of the so-called “Russian world,” etc.), and the domestic one (which portrays the daily lives of people, their new routines, habits, rules, and adjustments to the changed circumstances and conditions).
The main idea was also to show that when scrolling through the newsfeed, people never see the reverse side of any events – the life of the people.
