Beyond the Horizon Line
two series, author's technique, print, film, thread, 50x65 cm, 2024
Both series depict the landscapes of the outskirts of Nova Kakhovka, the author's hometown, photographed by her during 2020.
Working with photography using experimental printing methods on translucent and non-standard substrates, she reflects on the state of uncertainty and expectation that is currently associated with these landscapes and home. The crumpled base in the first series becomes a metaphor for a ‘broken memory’ and describes the state of constant and uninterrupted search and comparison, and by dividing one photo into 6 components in the second series, the author tries to capture the landscapes in memory, to understand and conditionally return home. The meditative and painstaking process of printing emphasises the author's reverent attitude to the memories of home and native landscapes. In the face of the impossibility of returning to these places, photographs from her own archive become a refuge and perhaps the most valuable resource.
The series was presented at the solo exhibition "Beyond the horizon line", Haus Berneburg, Kassel, Germany
