Memory nourishes the field
series, acrylic shelves, acrylic marker, 10x25 cm, 2023
A series of graphic objects where the shadow is the main part, turning into a new form of medium and destroying the established ‘base, material’, because here the base is a white wall and the material is shadow; the painted graphics on the transparent are secondary, although they can also be seen.
Here I depict the Kherson field, multifaceted and diverse, as well as littered, mined and suffering. Light can adjust the shadow, stretching or shortening it, and several light sources make one shadow into several different shapes. For me, this process is similar to thoughts about the Kherson field and its future - they are as changeable and different, and subject to change from any trifle, just like shadows. The field itself is also constantly changing. In this series, I deliberately go beyond the stable ‘base-material’ and make the main thing that there is no light without a source, because this is how I feel the loss of home and the opportunity to get there.
The shadow here is a symbol of the constant comparison of everything with Kherson, whether it's a road, the sea, or a field... and the question arises: will I ever be able to meet it again?
